Red Rock State Park is a 286-acre nature preserve and environmental education center located just 5 miles west of Sedona off Highway 89A on the Lower Red Rock Loop Road. A wide variety of special programs are available for school groups and private groups; the picnic areas and classrooms may be reserved for public or private functions.
Surrounded by the beauty of Sedona's red rocks, Oak Creek meanders through the park and provides visitors the opportunity to experience a lush riparian habitat and many forms of wildlife along a 6-mile network of trails.
Interpretive Programs
  • Guided Nature Walks, daily 10 am, 1.5 hours
  • Special Program, daily 2 pm, 45 minutes
  • Bird Walks, Wed & Sat, call for times
  • Eagle's Nest Guided Hike, 3 miles in 3 hours, call for times
  • First Sunday Program, once a month, 2 pm. This program includes presentations by noted speakers and experts in the field.
  • House of Apache Fire, call for times
  • Moonlight Hikes, April - October, call for times
  • Summer Evening Hikes, call for dates and times

Facilities: Restrooms, drinking water, and picnic areas are provided at Red Rock State Park. There are no trash cans. There are also stand barbeques, picnic ramadas, and water fountains. Red Rock State Park also provides a visitor center with a gift shop and small museum. There is recycling for aluminum cans and plastic bottles at the visitor center.

Reservations: The picnic areas and classrooms at Red Rock State Park may be reserved for public or private functions. Reservations are not needed for general use.

Best Time To Visit: 

Red Rock State Park is open:
  • April: 8 am - 6 pm
  • May - August: 8 am - 8 pm
  • September: 8 am - 6 pm
  • October - March: 8 am - 5 pm
Visitor Center hours:
  • September - April: 9 am - 5 pm
  • May - August: 9 am - 6 pm
The park is closed on Christmas Day.

Fees: Entrance fees apply. Please call for current fee information.

Accessibility: The park is accessible with a paved path, accessible restrooms, and visitor center.

Rules: To protect the fragile vegetation, the park asks that visitors stay on designated trails. There is no trash pickup at this park, so visitors are required to pack out any trash. Pets are prohibited at Red Rock State Park. Swimming and wading are activities reserved for local wildlife only. This is a day-use park, so there are no general overnight camping facilities available.

Directions: To reach Red Rock State Park from Sedona take 89A, turn south on Lower Red Rock Loop Road.
