At 1.8 miles, Clark Spring Trail #40 follows a straight, level course to the southwest from Granite Basin Lake about 1 mile to Clark Spring. It is well traveled between Yavapai Family Campground and Clark Spring.
Beyond the spring, the trail begins a gradual ascent to the pass between Two Rock Mountain and Little Granite Mountain and its junction with Little Granite Mountain Trail #37. Portions of Clark Spring Trail are located within Granite Mountain Wilderness. Total elevation change is 8,000 feet.
Accepted uses for Clark Spring Trail #40 are hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and walking leashed pets.

Facilities: Yavapai Family Campground is nearby Clark Spring Trail and there are also restrooms nearby.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Clark Spring Trail #40.

Directions: To reach Clark Spring Trail #40 from Courthouse Square in Prescott, go north on Montezuma Street, then west (left) on Whipple Street, then northwest (right) on Iron Springs Road to junction with Granite Basin Road (Forest Road 374), a total of 4.7 miles. Turn right and travel 3.5 miles on Forest Road 374 to Metate Trailhead. Turn left and park.

To reach Clark Spring Trail #40 from Prescott Valley, take Highway 69 to downtown Prescott. Go west (left) on Whipple Street, then northwest (right) on Iron Springs Road to junction with Granite Basin Road (Forest Road 374), a total of 4.7 miles. Turn right and travel 3.5 miles on Forest Road 374 to Metate Trailhead. Turn left and park.
