The Peavine National Recreation Trail is a scenic trail, and Prescott's first multi-use, non-motorized trail for all ages. The trail has already been accepted into the Arizona State Trails System. This 4.5-mile trail passes through the scenic Granite Dells with views of Watson Lake.
This trail is one of the few Rails-to-Trails projects in Arizona. There are outstanding views of Watson Lake and Granite Dells, as well as, wildlife viewing. Visitors may walk, hike, bike or ride horseback along this four-mile trail, which was originally built by the Santa Fe Railway in 1893. The Peavine National Recreation Trail connects with the Iron King Trail for another four-mile trek along more railroad bed.

Facilities: There is a toilet at the trailhead of Peavine National Recreation Trail. There is no potable water along the trail, however there is access to Watson Lake for watering horses.
Additional facilities including water, camping, day-use areas, and picnic ramadas are available at nearby Watson Lake Park.

Best Time To Visit: Peavine National Recreation Trail is open year round.

Fees: A parking fee may be charged.

Accessibility: The trail is suitable for mobility impaired people; it is level, well maintained, and wide.

Rules: Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pets. Fires are allowed in stoves or barbeques only. No motorized vehicles are permitted on the trail Littering is crime punishable with a maximum $2500 fine in the City of Prescott.

Directions: To get to Peavine National Recreation Trail from Prescott take Route 89 north to Prescott Lakes Parkway. Turn right (east) and cross the bridge. Take the first left onto Sundog Ranch Road, and then another left into the trailhead parking lot. The area is well-signed.
