North Mingus Trail is a moderate, 4.25-mile hike, climbing to 6,200 feet in elevation. This trail, used in combination with View Point Trail, makes for an attractive loop route, allowing day trips that return to the Mingus Mountain campground area. This is also a good trail for arranging to have vehicles at both ends of the trail, one at the campground and the other on Forest Road 338 at Mescal Spring.
This is a nice trail during the fall, because of the changing colors of the many small pockets of aspen and other deciduous trees on the north side of Mingus Mountain. From portions of this trail there are also nice views of Jerome, Cottonwood, and the Verde Valley.
Trail layout: The trail goes north for about 0.75 miles staying on the rim. At this point it continues north but descends sharply for about 0.5 miles to where it intersects with trail #105A. TR #105A at this point turns east. The main trail turns northwest contouring around the north side of Mingus Mountain. At about mile 3.7 the trail intersects Forest Road 338 at Mescal Spring. From here it is less than a mile along Forest Road 338 to Highway 89A.
This trail permits hiking and horseback riding only. Hiking time: 2 hours Length: 4.25 miles to top Difficulty: Moderate Use: Moderate

Facilities: Mingus Mountain Campground is nearby providing camping, toilets, and water.

Best Time To Visit: North Mingus Trail is open spring, summer, and fall.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: The use of any mechanized equipment including bicycles is prohibited on this trail - hiking and horseback riding only.

Directions: To reach North Mingus Trail from Prescott, travel east on Highway 89A, at the summit north of Mingus Mountain, take Forest Road 104 south for approximately 2.6 miles to the Mingus Mountain campground. At the campground take the left fork road to the hand glider site where the trailhead is located.

The north trailhead is approached from Highway 89A at Mescal Tank. Visitors will recognize the wide pulloff from the highway since it is just past the sign announcing the boarder of the Prescott National Forest, when approaching this sign from Jerome. Walk down Forest Road 338 through private property to the trail.
