Moody Point Trail is a very difficult 8.6-mile trail climbing 4,200 feet in elevation from an original 3,000 feet. At 8.6 miles, this is the longest and one of the most difficult trails in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness. There are some major elevation changes on this trail. It may be vague and difficult to follow in some places. West to east (downhill) travel is recommended. Travelers may not be able to cross Cherry Creek when the water is high.


Facilities: There are no facilities available at Moody Point Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Moody Point Trail is normally open spring through fall.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Closed to all motorized vehicles, including bikes.

Directions: To reach Moody Point Trail from Payson: start out going north on AZ-87, turn right on AZ-260. Turn right on Chamberlain Trail, turn right on AZ-288, which goes to Young. From Young: To Moody Point Trailhead: Take State Highway #288 to Forest Development Road #487 (Workman Creek Road), and travel 6.5 miles to the trailhead. To Leisure Canyon Trailhead: From State Highway #288, turn east onto Cherry Creak Road (Forest Road #203) and travel this road for 18.8 miles to the trailhead.
