Fees: Unknown Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible. Rules: To continue on the Verde River onto the Fort McDowell Reservation, contact the tribal authorities for permit information. Endangered species closures are posted below Horseshoe and Bartlett Dams. This closure is December 1 - June 30 annually. No land access is allowed during the closures. No stopping, disembarking or noise is allowed if traveling by boat. Directions: To reach Lower Verde River from Carefree, take Cave Creek Road for 7 miles to Bartlett Road/Forest Road (FR) 19. Turn right on FR 19 and travel for 6 miles to the junction of Forest Road 205. At this junction, turn left onto a maintained unpaved road. Continue 11 miles to Horseshoe Reservoir. Turn right on Forest Road 205A and travel for approximately 1 mile to the base of the dam.
