The dispersed Lower Tonto Creek Campground is on the East Verde River, set in ponderosa pine, aspen and pinions. Fishing is available for stocked rainbow trout on the river. Bears, coyotes, elk, deer, skunks, raccoons, and javelinas live in this area. Campers may gather firewood on site.
This campground has 17 single sites on the East Verde River and is for the primitive camper.


Facilities: Supplies are available in Payson. No drinking water or services are provided at Lower Tonto Creek Campground.

Best Time To Visit: Lower Tonto Creek Campground is open April through November.

Fees: No fees are charged for campground use.

Accessibility: This campground is not handicap accessible.

Rules: The Lower Tonto Creek Campground is located within the Tonto National Forest; forest regulations apply. Maximum length of stay is 14 days.

Directions: Lower Tonto Creek Campground is located 17 miles east of Payson on State Highway 260.
