Lake Havasu is part of the Lake Havasu State Park. The lake has deep water, ringed with coves and inlets, which provides ideal fishing conditions for black and striped bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish and trout. The lake is well known for various water sports including water skiing, speed boating, jet skiing, sailing, and canoeing. Public shorelines provide extensive beaches, and several camping and swimming areas around the lake.
Lake Havasu, home of the London Bridge, was named for the 45-mile long lake formed by damming the Colorado River. The London Bridge, which crosses the Bridgewater Channel from the mainland to a small island on the Colorado River, is world-famous.
In the 1960s the bridge began sinking into the River Thames; its immense weight was collapsing itself. Robert P. McCulloch bought the bridge, and had it dismantled and brought it to Lake Havasu. The bridge was then rebuilt brick by brick.
