The 5-mile Kachina Trail sets an easy course across some of the San Francisco Peaks more moderate topography. It follows a moderate gradient through stands of white barked aspen and tall mixed conifers separated by broad, wildflower-carpeted meadows.

Common wildlife includes antlered elk, mule deer, as well as gray squirrels, Clark's nutcrackers, and Steller's jays. Portions of the city of Flagstaff and its suburbs are visible throughout the hike as well. The hike can be especially rewarding in the fall when the scenery changes.

The moderately difficult 5 miles of the Kachina Trail receive moderate use from May to November. The trail climbs 700 feet in elevation and may take 2.5 hours to complete.

Accessibility: This area is not accessible.

Rules: No mechanized or motorized vehicles, including bicycles, in are permitted in the wilderness areas.

Directions: Drive 7 miles northwest of Flagstaff on US 180 and turn north (right) on the Snowbowl Road (Forest Road 516). Follow this paved road about 7 miles to the Snowbowl Ski Area. Drive into the first parking lot on the right (south). The Kachina trailhead is located at the south end of the parking lot.
