The moderate 2-mile Inner Basin trail into the heart of the ancient volcano begins in Lockett Meadow. From here, it follows a primitive road into Inner Basin, and then connects to the Weatherford trail. Snow may remain here even into the summer time. Cross-country skiers continue to ski as late as June in some years. Hiking is the most popular way of visiting this beautiful and unique environment.
The trail climbs 1,400 feet in elevation. The trail receives moderate use from late spring to fall. Accepted uses are hiking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
