Horseshoe Reservoir is located at 1,999 feet elevation, and provides excellent camping, picnicking, fishing, and boating for recreation users. Present fish species in the reservoir include crappie, large and smallmouth bass, channel and flathead catfish, and bluegill. Horseshoe is one of the best fish nurseries in Arizona, with the refilling of the reservoir.


Facilities: At the Ocotillo Boating site, there are vault toilets. No drinking water available at the Horseshoe Reservoir. Nearest commercial services are available in Carefree and Cave Creek.

Best Time To Visit: The Horseshoe Reservoir is open year-round weather permitting.

Rules: Leave no trace.

Directions: From Carefree, take Cave Creek Road to the junction of Bartlett Road/Forest Road (FR) 19. Turn right and travel 6 miles to the junction of FR 205. Turn left onto a maintained unpaved road. Continue for 11 miles to Horseshoe Reservoir.
