Deep Creek Trail is an easy, 5-mile trail at 5,000 feet elevation, as it climbs another 500 feet. This trail offers access to the Sierra Ancha Wilderness, scenery including views of Deep Creek, Cherry Creek and long vistas of the Salt River. Vegetation that inhabits the area includes oak brush, manzanita, juniper and Gambel oak. Wildlife includes javelina, bear and deer. This trail provides easy hiking and passes through a chaparral/grassland basin with fine views of the Sierra Ancha Mountain bluffs.


Facilities: The Deep Creek Trail does not provide any facilities.

Best Time To Visit: The Deep Creek Trail is normally open year-round.

Fees: There are no use fees associated with trail.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Closed to all motorized equipment, bike or other mechanical transport.

Directions: To reach the Deep Creek Trail from Payson go east on Arizona Highway 260 to Chamberlain Trail (approximately 25 miles). Turn right on Chamberlain Trail for approximately 20 miles to Arizona Highway 288. Turn right on Arizona Highway 288 for approximately 5 miles to Young Arizona. From Young continue south on State Highway 288 to Forest Road 203. Turn east (left) onto Forest Road 203 (Cherry Creek Road), follow Forest Road 203 for 9 miles to Forest Road 203A. Turn north and follow Forest Road 203A for approximately 6.5 miles to the trailhead.
