Chasm Creek Trail provides access to the upper third of the Cedar Bench Wilderness. The trail has a fairly significant elevation gradient of about 2000 feet from the grasslands at the eastern extremities of the trail to about 5600 feet where the trail exits the wilderness on the west. At the higher elevations, one can see the Verde Valley and north toward the Flagstaff area and the San Francisco Peaks.
Beginning on Forest Road 574, the trail climbs steeply to the wilderness boundary reaching 4800 feet around the west side of Table Mountain. The trail continues its steady ascent to mile 3.4 where it exits the wilderness. It then gradually descends Horner Gulch, passing Horner Mountain Tank to where it ends at mile 6.1 on Forest Road 528.
