Center Mountain Trail, is a difficult 2.5 mile trail, beginning at 6,700 feet elevation, before climbing to 7,500 feet. From the Billy Lawrence Trailhead the trail climbs onto Center Mountain, joins the Reynolds Creek trail and terminates at the Reynolds Creek Trailhead #150. This trail offers access to the Sierra Ancha Wilderness, as well as, views of Cherry Creek and the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Vegetation includes Ponderosa pine, Gamble oak, and manzanita brush. Wildlife includes the black bear, mountain lion, deer, elk and wild turkey. Parts of this trail are rocky and steep.

Facilities: There are no facilities available at Center Mountain Trail.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to use Center Mountain Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Center Mountain Trail is open spring through fall.

Fees: There are no use fees associated with this trail.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: This trail is located within the Tonto National Forest; forest regulations apply. If you PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT!

Directions: To reach Center Mountain Trail from Payson, travel east on State Highway 260 to State Highway 288. Drive south on State Highway 288 to Young. From Young, travel about 16 miles south on State Highway #288 to Forest Development Road #410. Take Forest Road #410, (Reynolds Creek) 2.5 miles to Forest Road #235. Turn left and travel 0.5 mile to Billy Lawrence Trailhead.
