Carr Canyon Road (Forest Road 368)

Carr Canyon Road (Forest Road 368) is a narrow, winding road was built at the turn of the century to open up the Carr Reef to gold and silver mining. The Civilian Conservation Corps reconstructed it in the 1930's. From this road one can see views of the city of Sierra Vista, the San Pedro Valley and a number of surrounding mountain ranges as it winds its way up the mountain. A forest recreation area stands in an area once occupied by the Reef Townsite. Here visitors will find the Reef Townsite Loop Trail, Reef Townsite Campground and Ramsey Vista Campground.

Facilities: Facilities for the Carr Canyon Road including gas, food, and lodging can be provided in nearby Sierra Vista.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or required to drive Carr Canyon Road.

Best Time To Visit: Carr Canyon Road is normally open spring through fall.

Fees: There are no fees to use Carr Canyon Road.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Vehicles with trailers over 12' are not permitted on Carr Canyon Road.

Directions: To reach Carr Canyon Road from Tucson, travel east on I-10 to AZ Hwy. 90 (exit 302). Turn south and drive 33 miles on AZ 90 through Sierra Vista to the Carr Canyon Road. Turn right and drive 7 miles up the mountain. The last 5 miles are dirt.

To reach Carr Canyon Road from Sierra Vista: drive through Sierra Vista to the Carr Canyon Road. Turn right and drive 7 miles up the mountain. The last 5 miles are dirt.
