	Kodiak, Alaska Bird Watching Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge The Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge protects more than 2,400 islands, headlands, rocks, islets, spires and reefs along the Alaskan coast. About 2.6 million acres of the refuge is wilderness. Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge The Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge spans 340 miles of the Alaska Peninsula in the southwestern part of the state and encompasses about 4.3 million acres. Activities here include bird watching, wildlife viewing, fishing, and photography. Aniakchak River Fishing along the Aniakchak River is outstanding for seasonal runs of Sockeye and Dolly Varden. Becharof Lake All five species of Pacific salmon inhabit the refuge, as do rainbow salmon, Arctic char and grayling. Becharof National Wildlife Refuge Becharof Refuge offers outstanding bear hunting and sport fishing for trophy-size Arctic char, grayling, and salmon. Brooks Camp The focus of visitor use at the Brooks Camp is at the Brooks River, where brown bear congregate to feed on sockeye salmon. Three bear viewing platforms are located along the Brooks River. Brooks River Katmai harbors world class rainbow and lake trout, char, grayling and all five varieties of salmon. Chugach National Forest Roughly the same size as the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island combined, the Chugach National Forest offers opportunities for the angler, hiker, hunter, skier, mountain biker and camper. Katmai National Park and Preserve Katmai National Park and Preserve is known for volcanoes, brown bears, fish and rugged wilderness. Katmai encompasses more than four million acres of wilderness. Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge The Kodiak refuge is home to more than 2,200 Kodiak bears. The refuge is also home to Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goats, red foxes, otters, short-tailed weasels, beavers and tundra voles, while whales, porpoises, stellar sea lions, seals and waterfowl inhabit the ocean. Lake Clark National Park and Preserve Covering four million acres, the scenery stretches from the shores of Cook Inlet, across the Chigmit Mountains, to the tundra covered hills of the western interior. Numerous lake and river systems in the park and preserve offer excellent fishing and wildlife viewing. Lake Rose Tead This spot is a favorite for silver salmon fishing. King salmon and Dolly Varden are also found here. McNeil River State Game Sanctuary The largest known gathering of brown bears in the world happens at McNeil River. Visitors get an unparalleled opportunity to watch the bears mating, fighting, playing, and feeding. Naknek Lake Naknek Lake harbors world class rainbow and lake trout, char, grayling and all five varieties of salmon. Pasagshak River This spot is a favorite for silver salmon fishing. King salmon and Dolly Varden are also found here. Pasagshak River Campground The Pasagshak River Campground contains 20 individual camping areas. Restrooms, water, a picnic table, and grills are provided. The river is relatively short, and is unusual in that it reverses its flow four times daily with the ebb and flow of the tides. Pasagshak River State Recreation Site This spot is a favorite for silver salmon fishing. King salmon and Dolly Varden are also found here.
