This campground is currently the only fully developed and maintained Forest Service Campground on the island. There are eleven camp units in a heavily forested setting of spruce, hemlock, and cedar. There is a boardwalk trail which parallels the lake for approximately 1800 feet offering a scenic view of the Thorne Mountains and the surrounding foothills. A canoe launch allows those with their own canoes to explore Ball's Lake.

Back-in campsites are narrow and perpendicular to campground road. Backing large RVs could be difficult.

Facilities: Restrooms and drinking water are provided. Other supplies can be found at Thorne Bay.

Best Time To Visit: Normal services are available from early May through September.

Fees: Day usage is free, but an overnight camping charge will apply.

Directions: This campground is located off State Highway 43, 18 miles west of Thorne Bay and 2 miles east of the Control Lake Junction on the shore of Ball's Lake.
