China Poot Bay is documented as "one of the richest marine ecosystems in the world". It is also a State Fish and Game designated "Critical Habitat Area". It is America's largest National Estuarine Research Reserve and designated by the World Bank as one of America's two most significant marine areas. Some of the species available are; rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, silver salmon, king salmon, and halibut flounder. China Poot Bay and its associated drainages offer a remarkable diversity of fishing opportunities.

Directions: Access to the park is by boat or airplane, as there are no roads to the park. Air charters, water taxi services, and boat rentals are available in Homer.
