The Black Bear Campground is a small loop campground with 13 individual camping sites suitable for vehicle camping (no RV's) and tents. The surrounding vegetation consists mainly of mature spruce trees.


Facilities: The Black Bear Campground offers a vault toilet, a hand driven water pump, a dumpster, picnic tables, fire rings, and bear lockers.

Best Time To Visit: The campground is open only from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Fees: An overnight camping fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: There are a variety of rules at the Chugach National Forest, concerning everything from horses, pets, firearms, vehicles, mudflats, gold panning and more. Please contact the Ranger Districts for more specific information.

Directions: Travel south of Anchorage 45 miles on the Seward Highway and take a left at the Portage Valley Highway turnoff. Campground is located on the right 3 miles down the Portage Highway
