| The Kodiak State Parks Headquarters and the Visitor Center are located here at the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park, north of Kodiak city on Miller Point. Foot trails pass through the rain forest with Sitka Spruce trees leading to the coastline. From the shore, puffins, whales, sea otters, and sea lions can be seen from the same vantage point once used by U.S. soldiers to watch for Japanese aircraft and warships. The park features an interpretive site, a campground, a group recreation site with covered picnic area, and a lake stocked with rainbow trout and arctic grayling. The campsites at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park are designed primarily for tent campers. RV campers are encouraged to use the overflow parking area. A group recreation site with covered picnic area is available with a prepaid reservation. |
