Ward Lake Nature Trail

This 1.1 mile nature trail starts at the picnic area and travels around the lake and is rated "easy". Deer are commonly seen in the area and occasionally a black bear has been known to wander through. Bird watching is also outstanding in this area. The Ward Lake Recreation Area provides a wide variety of developed recreation facilities.

Facilities: Designated picnic areas are provided in the Ward Lake Recreation Area.

Best Time To Visit: Normal services are available from early May through September.

Fees: A day usage fee may apply.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: A variety of rules apply when visiting a National Forest. Please contact the local Forest Ranger for more information.

Directions: Ward Lake is located about six miles north of Ketchikan near Ward Cove. Follow the Tongass Highway north about 4.5 miles from Ketchikan to Ward Lake Road (State Highway 39). Ward Lake Road will be on the right with directional signs to the lake. Follow the gravel road for about 1.5 miles.
