This trail is 21 miles long one-way, and can produce a wide variety of scenery. The level foot path has gradual grades, and is well maintained. Snow on trail can persist into late spring. Downed trees can impede travel in winter/spring. This trail offers scenic overlooks of the Russian River and panoramic views of mountains. This is an easy hike for a good family outing. This trail can lead into a potential multi-day trip using designated campsites at Lower/Upper Russian Lakes or Barber, Aspen Flats, or Upper Russian Lake Cabins.

Facilities: Supplies can be found in Seward or Hope. There are no facilities along the trail, except for a few public use cabins. For information on reserving these cabins, please contact the National Forest.

Reservations: Reservations are needed if you wish to rent a cabin along the trail for the evening.

Best Time To Visit: The Chugach National Forest is open year round.

Fees: There is no admission fee to the Chugach National Forest.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Trail is closed to saddle/packstock from April 1-June 30 and motorized vehicles from February 16-November 30. Boil surface water at least 5 minutes before drinking. Extra precautions should be taken in the wintertime, as the weather can change drastically. Please contact the Chugach National Forest for more information.

Directions: At Mile 52, Sterling Highway, turn onto Russian River Campground Road. Trailhead parking is 1 mile further. East end: At Mile 48, Sterling Highway, turn onto Snug Harbor Road, travel 9 miles to Cooper Lake Road, 3 miles to parking. Cooper Lake Road is not plowed in winter. Snug harbor Road may be icy.
