This is an easy to moderate trail climbing up about 800 feet to and along side Ptarmigan Lake. This trail is 7.5 miles long one-way, and can produce a wide variety of scenery. The first mile of this trail is fairly level. After that, there are some steep sections up to the lake. The trail around the lake has some steep sections as well, but is mostly level.
The trail is rutty and has both devil's club and stinging nettles growing along side of it. It is recommend that you wear a good pair of hiking boots and pants to protect your feet, ankles and legs. There are a few spots that run along side dangerous cliffs. Small children should be kept under close supervision.

Facilities: Supplies can be found in Seward or Hope.

Best Time To Visit: The Chugach National Forest is open year round.

Fees: There is no admission fee to the Chugach National Forest.
